From the membrane fragments of the green alga Bryopsis maxima, a cytochrome which resembles cytochrome f of higher plants was solubilized with methyl ethyl ketone. The cytochrome was partly purified by ammonium sulfate fractionation, followed by gel filtration. Its properties were similar to those of the algal cytochrome f reported by Wood (26). The approximate molar ratio of cytochromes f c-553 and chlorophyll in B. maxima was 1 : 1 : 600-700.
