Two fractions of acid phosphatase were eluted from a column of isolated tobacco cell walls with a linearly-increasing gradient of NaCl. Although the isolated cell walls were found to have a large capacity to bind cytoplasmic acid phosphatase, the fraction eluted at 0.4 M NaCl was assumed to be the native cell-wall enzyme.
