• Since dibutyl phthalate was recently found to promote growth in the rice seedling test, four other phthalates; the dimethyl, diethyl, diheptyl, and dioctyl phthalates were exmined using the same test. Only the first two were found to be active and rice seedlings lost photo- and geo-tropisms on the application of 100 ppm of diethyl ester.
