2-(4-Chlorophenylthio) triethylamine hydrochloride (CPTA) induced the rapid accumulation of lycopene in Cucurbita moschata cotyledons. Concomitant with this increase, was a decrease in chlorophyll concentration in green seedlings, a cessation of further plumule and cotyledonary growth and an increase in cotyledon respiration Light was required for maximum lycopene accumulation.
