Mesocotyl elongation in japonica rice : Effect of high temperature pre-treatment and ethylene

Ethylene only slightly increased mesocotyl length in a japonica type of rice, but when seeds were pre-treated with high temperature, added ethylene dramatically stimulated mesocotyl elongation. Removal of endogenously evolved ethylene apparently reduced mesocotyl length in seedlings. Elongation of cotyledonary node roots was inhibited by ethylene.
