A far-red absorbing pigment with an absorption maximum at 742 nm was formed in wheat leaves treated with amitrol. Spectral changes of this pigment on treatment with Triton X-100 or acetone suggested that the pigment is a form of chlorophyll a produced by inhibition of a step of chlorophyll biosynthesis during chloroplast development.
