The presence of ferredoxin, PMS, pyocyanine or FMN in the preincubation mixture completely protected chloroplast fragments from photoinactivation of the activity associated with photosystem I of photosynthesis. Neither ferredoxin, plastocyanin, ferredoxin-NADP reductase nor the cytochromes contained in chloroplast fragments were the site of photoinactivation. The site and mode of photoinactivation in system I of photosynthesis are discussed.
