Three kinds of bridged gum arabic of below 27 in degree of swelling were prepared by using epichlorohydrin as the cross linked agent. Examinations were made on the effectiveness of its use as a disintegration agent for iodochlorohy droxyquinoline tablets from wetting heat and swelling of polymers in comparison with disintegration effect of Amberlite IR-120 resin (H, Na, and Mg forms), and calcium carboxymethylcellulose. The rate of swelling of a tablet was faster when a polymer of small degree of swelling was added and disintegration was accelerated. Time of disintegration extended with decrease in the void space of tablets, but this relationship was not established in tablets using Amberlite IR-120. There was no effect of wetting heat on disintegration of tablets added with any of the polymers.
