• Selenium dioxide oxidation of hydroazulenones furnished tropolone derivatives. Thus, 3,4-cyclopentatropolone was obtained from 4-oxo-⊿^9-octahydroazulene via 4,5-dioxo-⊿^9-octahydroazulene, and further, 6-methyl-4,5-(1-methylcyclopenta) tropolone was obtained from 1,4-dimethyl-6-oxo-⊿^<3,4>-hexahydroazulene.
