A new technique was developed for estimating heat transfer character from arc plasma to the cutting front surface within the cutting groove in plasma arc cutting. In the new method, only three pieces of cutting information were required for the estimation. One is cutting front shapes after cutting, the other curvature of the cutting front and another the front position information against the arc center. The calculation was achieved with a least squares-collocation method on the boundary, which is one of the method of weighted residuals. The new method was available not only for examination of the equivalent pattern of radial heat flux distribution of plasma arc but also for consideration of the required heat flux distribution for melting the cutting front surface.
