Butt welding of Al-Al and Al-Cu pipe joints using magnetically impelled arc welding method is investigated. For application of this welding method to these non-ferromagnetic materials, it is necessary to set the steel core into the pipes. In the case of Al-Al joint, a good welded joint ability can be attained with upsetting pipes immediately after melting of the whole edge surface that suddenly decreased arc voltage. In the case of Al-Cu joint, the suitable welding condition spreads over a wide range using Ar-H_2 shielding gas and setting aluminium pipe to negative side.
