A deep drawing process combined with welding is investigated. Two methods are employed : (a) in one method an annular ring is welded at the periphery of the flange of a drawn cup and the welded cup is re-drawn successively, and (b) in the other an annular ring is welded to a blank before deep drawing process. By method (a), a cup with any required depth can be obtained provided that the outer diameter of the ring is smaller than the maximum diameter of the unwelded blank which is subject to the forming limit. By method (b), L.D.R. (Limiting Drawing Ratio) can be increased by 0.3∿0.35 for a stainless steel (SUS304) provided that the thickness of the ring is smaller than that of the blank. A cup composed of dissimilar materials is obtained by this method and the results are discussed.
