In a spring stream in northern Japan, Palaeagapetus ovatus had about three generations in two years. Density of the species in liverworts was relatively low in summer and high in winter, varying greatly each year. Eubasilissa regina was univoltine, and the full grown larvae were about 32 mm in length and over 800 mg in wet body weight. During the larval development, E. regina changed their case materials from liverworts to terrestrial fallen leaves, their food from severe benthic animals via epiphytic ones to animals living among fallen leaves, and their habitat from liverworts to pools. The preying behaviour of 2nd to 4th instar larvae of E. regina was a stalk, tactile and nocturnal mode. The number of P. ovatus preyed upon by E. regina was observed in the laboratory and the effects of the predator on natural prey density was discussed.
