An egg-carrying female of Eriphia smithi MacLeay was collected near the tide marks of a rocky shore around Izu Shimoda in July, 1981. Larvae were reared to the megalopa stage at the temperatures varying from 26 to 29℃. During the zoeal development, there were four stages before metamorphosing into megalopa. Characteristics of zoeae in each stage were described and illustrated, and compared with those of other members of the subfamily Menippinae. The antenna II of the B_5 type and the telson of the A_<2+1> type, characteristic of this species throughout the zoeal stages, were useful as criteria for zoeal identification.
