Zoeae of Pilodius nigrocrinitus were reared in the laboratory from hatch to the megalopa stage. Artemia nauplii were given as food. At least nine days were required for the completion of zoeal development under culture conditions, (26.2 to 28.0℃). The zoeae of this species were compared with those of other members of the subfamily Chlorodinae studied by previous workers. P. nigrocrinitus had three zoeal stages before transforming into the megalopa, in contrast to Chlorodiella nigra and Etisus laevimanus, both of which had four stages. Although the zoeae of the chlorodinid crabs so far studied were very similar in structure, some differences were noted among different species. Stage I zoeae of P. nigrocrinitus were distinguished from those of P. spinipes in the types of setations on the endopods of the maxilla II and the maxilliped II, and from those of Cymo melanodactylus in the distribution of dark chromatophores on the protopods of the maxillipeds as well as the antennal exopod with two apical setae. The telson became distinctly articulated in stage II in P. nigrocrinitus and E. laevimanus, but only in stage III in Ch. nigra. The endopod of the maxilliped II of P. nigrocrinitus consisted of three segments in all stages, whereas that of Ch. nigra had one segment in stages I and II, and two in stages III and IV.
