The behavior of macronuclear-node of the marine ciliate, Condylostoma spatiosum OZAKI et YAGIU which has an elongated, moniliformed macronucleus consisting of 16-22 nodes, was followed in the operated fragments. 1. In the fragments having a few macronuclear-nodes, the coagulation of nodes, which are observed usually in the regenerating organisms, do not occur at all and in compensation for them the direct division of each node is observed. After repeating such division, the nodes increase in number and finally grow up into their original moniliformed arrangement by 3 days after the operation. 2. Such division of node seems to occure in a regular manner. In the fragments containing three, four or five nodes, the division occurs first in one or two nodes intervening the anterior and posterior ones. After those divisions, the posterior node follows to divide and finally the anterior one does. 3. The division of node usually occures about 15-20 hours after the operation. By this time, a newly formed peristome is observed in the fragment but no visible changes of nodes have been traced. 4. The division is carried out only in an uninjured node. And the fragment, containing only one such uninjured node, can regenerate and grow up into the original form with a long monili-formed macronucleus.
