The seasonal cycle was observed in the testis of the medaka (Oryzias latipes), collected two or three times every month during from 1952 to 1953 in the vicinity of Shimonoseki, Yamaguti prefecture. The breeding generally begins with Aprill and ends in September. Spermatogonial cells are observed in process of division along the cortical layer of the testicular cysts before and behind the breeding season in the specimens of March and May. In most specimens the maturation division occurs during a period from June to August. The spermatids make their appearance in October. The completion of spermioteleosis takes place during a period from November to February. The results of the histological study suggest that the course of maturation in the testis of the medaka-fish follows the Fundulus-type. It was found that there are certain numbers of residual spermatogonia in the testis persisting as primodial germ-cells always. They are found situated amang cells lying in the cortical layer or the testicular cysts. They supply germ-cells for the new spermatogenetic cycle by multiplication.
