• In the present paper may be known one new species, one new subspecies and two rare species of the blennioid fishes from the Riu-Kiu Islands, Which were collected by the present author and others during the years from 1936 to 1941. 1. Salarias kikaiensis n. sp. Text-fig. 1 This new species resembles S. unicolor of Kurrachee described by Day in 1878. It is, however, distinct from the latter in that the supraorbital tentacle is characteristically pinnate, that the nuchal tentacle is discernible and that the male as well as the female has no crest on the occiput. Locality: Kikai Island. 2. Aspidontus maroubrae (Ogilby) Text-fig. 2 The specimen described here is closely alike to Ogilby's Macrurrbynchus maroubrae, of Australia, but somewhat differs from the latter in having the different marking on both the dorsal and the anal fin. Form hitherto unknown from Japan and the Riu-Kiu Islands. Locality: Kowan, Okinawa-Honto. 3. Enchelyurus ater (Gunther) Text-fig. 3 The specimen described here is closely alike to Gunther's E. ater of Tahiti, but is distinguishable from the latter in having several red streaks on the side of head. Form hitherto unknown from Japan and the Riu-Kiu Islands. Locality: Itoman, Okinawa-Honto. 4. Lepidoblennius marmoratus ishigakiensis n. subsp. Text.-fig. 4. This new subspecies is closely allied to McCulloch and Whitley's L. marmoratus from Kangaroo Island, South Australia, but differs from the latter in that the first dorsal fin is not much higher than the second dorsal fin and that the second dorsal fin has fourteen spines. Locality: Ishigaki Island.
