Among the materials examined during the course of studies on the coral fishes of the Riu-Kiu Islands this author recognized one new genus and three new species of Blenniidae. In this paper these may be known. Family Blenniidae Calliblennius gen. nov. orthotype: Calliblennius rubescens sp. nov. A genus of small handsome tropical blennies somewhat like the spocies of Swainson's Labrisomus, but differing from them in the following combination of characters: Body well compressed; neither tentacles nor spines on head; preopercle entire; snout short, pointed; lower jaw protruding beyond tip of upper jaw; hind margin of maxillary wellexposed; eyes slightly prominent, very close together; gill membrane not adnate isthmus; tongue free, pointed. Trunk except isthmus and predorsal entirely covered with cycloid scales of moderate-size; head entirely naked. Three lateral lines on side of body running parallel to each orher; the upper line from upper corner of gill opening to below last dorsal ray, along dorsal contour; the median from just behind tip of median pectoral rays to base of median caudal rays, along median body axis; the lower from above base of ventral to above base of last anal ray, along ventral contour. Dorsal inserted above base of pectoral, increasing in height posteriorly; anal inserted below the tenth dorsal spine; posterior rays of both dorsal and anal reaching to base of caudal when depressed; median rays of both pectoral and caudal somewhat protruded; ventral jugular, strongly elongated, reaching to anal insertion when depressed. Each jaw with a narrow band of minute teeth; vomers with minute teeth; palatines without teeth. Gill rakers 4+9=13, slender, lanceolate. Pseudobranchiae present. Pyloric coeca 1, welldeveloped. D. XVIII, 5: A.X, 6; V. 2. 1. Calliblennius rubescens sp. nov. (Fig. 1) General characters as defined for the genus. This species is clearly distinguished from all other tropical blennies in having a greater number of anal spines, three lateral lines and handsome coloration. Four specimens collected by the present author at kowan, Okinawa-Honto, in 1940. Genus Salarias Cuvier (1817) 2. Salarias yaeyamaensis sp. nov. (Figs. 2, 3.) This species is distinct from other species of the genus Salarias in having neither supraorbital nor nuchal tentacles, and only a small simple nasal tentacle on the head. Three specimens collected by Prof. Y. Okada and the present author at Iriomote Island and Ishigaki Island in 1938. 3. Salarias unimaculatus sp. nov. (Fig. 4) This species somewhat resembles S. periophthalmus, but is distinct from the latter in having the trifurcated supraorbital tentacle and a conspicuous black spot on the side of body. Two specimens collected by Prof. Y. Okada and the present author at Ishigaki Island in 1938. Another specimen collected by the present author at Kowan, Okinawa-Honto, in 1941.
