Dasson trossulus is an annual and oviparous blennioid fish, growing about 100mm in length to the caudal base. The individuals, longer than 40mm, are provided with 5 pairs of dermal processes or barbels on the head: the upper and anteriormost one is situated at the anterior nostril, the 2nd one on the upper part of the eye, the 3rd near the upper posterior part of the orbital margin, the 4th at the anterior end of the lateral line, and finally the 5th one which is on the lower side is on the chin. The 2nd and the 5th ones were dscribed by Jordan and Snyder, but the others have not hitherto been recorded. In the young, the caudal margin is almost truncate (Fig. 1). In the male, as the fish grows, since the rays of the upper and the lower parts of the caudal fin elongate, the caudal margin becomes concave (Fig. 2). In the female, the caudal fin remains truncate throughout the life (Fig. 3). In the male, the urogenital tube opens at the tip of a conical process situated between the anus and the anal insertion (Fig. 4, B). The glandular swellings gradually develop around the 1st and the 2nd anal spines. In the spawning season, these swellings enlarge being provided with complicate wrinkles on their anterior and lateral sides (Figs. 4, A and 5). At the same time, a knob develops near the tip of each of the articulate rays following the 2nd anal spine. In the female, the urogenital tube opens on the anterior side of the basal part of the 1st anal spine which is comparatively shorter than that of the male. The opening is covered by a thick fleshy covering on its ventral side (Fig. 6, B), which becomes larger with the growth of the female. On both sides of the anal insertion close behind the fleshy covering, soft glandular swellings of another kind gradually develop. These swellings continue to enlarge so that the 1st anal spine is finally embedded in the glandular tissue except the distal end of the spine which sticks out like a minute papilla at the dorsal side of the urogenital opening (Figs. 6. A and 7).
