Elementary analysis of the two types of Amoeba proteus, mononuclear M-type and multinuclear P-type, was carried out mainly by a thermal nuetron activation analysis. Nucleic acid contents of both amoebae were also determined by ordinary analytical methods. For the activation analysis, 10mg of frozen-dried powders of amoeba were irradiated in a pneumatic tube of KUR (Kyoto University Reactor) at a thermal neutron flux of approx. 2.34×10^<13> n. cm^<-2>. sec^<-1>. for 5or 60min. The mean dry weight of amoeba M-type was 0.10μg/cell while that of P-type was 0.15μg/cell (P/M ratio=1.50). The P/M ratios for each element and for nucleic acid content were nearly equal to that for the dry weight, and this indicated that these two types of amoebae had similar chemical compositions.
