The sponges reported here were collected by the writer from those areas of several fishing ports (Hiwasa, Shishikui and others) on the Anan coast (Eastern Shikoku, Japan) where net debris was dumped. These collections yielded approximately 70 specimens. It seems these sponges were obtained from the coastal water in the vicinity of these ports by Ebiami (Lobster Net). The collections contained 21 species belonging to Demospongia. Of these sponges, one species belongs to the Order Keratosa, 4 to Haplosclerina, 6 to Poecilosclerina, 4 to Halichondrina, 2 to Hadromerina, 4 to Tetractinellida. The list of species is shown in Table 1. Of these 21 species, 13 (including 5 unidentified species) were newly recorded from this area and 3 (Callyspongia sp., Myxilla sp. and Jaspis sp.) may be new species. Since Tanita (1970) has reported 17 species of Demospongia from the same area, the sponges reported from the Anan coast amount to 30 species in all. For each species, external form, skeleton, spicule, color, locality, distribution in Japan and so forth were briefly described.
