The retinofugal projections in the hime salmon (landlocked red salmon, Oncorhynchus nerka) were studied by means of the Fink-Heimer method, and the anterograde horseradish peroxidase and cobaltic-lysine methods. The major projections were found on the contralateral side in the nucleus anterioris periventricularis of the preoptic area, the nucleus opticus dorsomedialis, the nucleus commissuralis posterioris, the nucleus geniculatus lateralis, the nucleus opticus accessorius, the area pretectalis and the optic tectum. Direct retinal projections were not found within the nuclear boundaries of the area ventralis telencephali pars supracommissuralis and the nucleus preopticus periventricularis which are known to play important roles in sexual behavior.
