FatBaby: Multi-functional Rapid Prototyper for IP-based System Designs

We developed a powerful and multi-functional rapid prototyping system for IP-based system designs, called FatBaby(FPGA and Microcontroller Equipped Breadboardless Rapid Prototyper). It consists of a prototyping HW board, and a prototyping system SW running on Window 98/95. The prototyping HW board has FPGA, microcontroller, and SRAM that are connected together through a set of buses. It is controlled by the prototyping system SW from PC. The system SW is armoured with a powerful and integrated debugger with which HW/SW system co-debugging is possible. With the aide of this co-debugger, the users can run, stop, trace, and continue the system, set the break points, and dump its state informations at the break points. The state informations include not only the values of all internal registers of microcontroller and specified memory locations, but also the values of some logic signal lines which exists inside the FPGA. The user can select any signal lines in the logic for the dump. Our prototyper provides all these features through a user-friendly GUI.
