We present a necessary and sufficient condition that a given generalized interpolation approximation mini-mizes various worst-case measures of error of approxi-mation at the same time among all the approximations, including nonlinear approximation, using the same set of sample values. Then, we consider generalized discrete interpolation approximation based on FIR filter banks that use the finite number of sample values at each t but scan input signal along the time axis. This approximation satisfies the necessary and sufficient condition presented in this paper.
