A fully sealed field emission display(FED)device, using carbon nanotubes(CNTs)as emitters was fabricated. A vacuum fluorescent display(VFD)-like diode type panel showing character image was also demonstrated. The raw CNTs chunks were crushed, purified, dispersed, mixed with organic additives and then screen-printed on silver electrode as cathode emitters. And the ITO anode plate, printed with phosphors, was separated from cathodes by 80 μm printed spacers. The display performed a turn-on voltage as low as 200 V, and the light emission under 300 V with brightness of 500 nits. Less than 15% degradation of emission current was observed after 1500 hours operating. The technical development, including design and fabrication of the phosphor, nanotube emitters and vacuum package process was described.
