The development of multi-slice helical CT such as its fast scanning speed and superb spatial resolution, paves the way to detect small lung nodules. This study comparatively evaluates the effect of using 2mm-thick and 10mm-thick multi-slice helical CT images to the physician's diagnostic performance of lung nodules. Six expert physicians/radiologists carried out a comparative reading test with 2mm-thick and 10mm-thick CT images obtained from the same patient. Reading test result shows that more nodules were found through 2mm-thick image than 10mm-thick image. Based on the result, it can be concluded that thin slice scanning improves the physicians' diagnostic performance of lung cancer.
