To improve the video quality in high hit rate wireless home network, we propose a video transmission technique with variable video coding rate and copy data transmission over Isochronous transfer mode in Wireless 1394. In the proposed technique, the video coding rate is changed dynamically according to channel condition in multi-path homelink channel. When channel condition degrades, the transmitting node decreases the video coding rate and copy data are transmitted in the extra bandwidth. By keeping reasonably large time intervals between transmissions of the original and copy data, robustness over change of channel condition is enhanced. The receiving node selects the original or copy data in which channel errors can be corrected by Reed-Solomon decoder. We evaluate the video PSNR (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) performance of the proposed technique by computer simulations. In order to verify the usefulness of the proposed technique, we also evaluate visually some actual reconstructed video frames. As a result, we show that the proposed technique improves the video quality compared to the conventional technique in wireless home network.
