It is expected that many of elderly people intend to keep themselves healthy by exercising. Our aim is to provide appropriate exercise levels even for the elderly by monitoring the heart rate and muscular fatigue. Examining 18 elderly people during the progressively increasing workload, we classified them into four types in terms of the time-varying behavior of the muscular-fatigue-related index. Moreover, we designed the fuzzy system for workload control by segmenting the measured data into three phases and studying the responses to the inserted temporally increasing workload, for eight selected persons with a controlled workload over a period of twelve-month. The results showed that the exercise level around the anaerobic threshold was achieved for each elderly person and continuously customizing the fuzzy system for individuals was important.
