In this paper, we consider available bit rate (ABR) congestion control in ATM. In the ABR service in ATM, each source changes a traffic rate according to network conditions. We assume that ATM switches determine the traffic rate based on the difference between a buffer state and a specified threshold, and convey it to sources through ER fields of RM cells. We propose a PID-type congestion control method taking into consideration both propagation delay and the quality-of-service (QoS).
