For the fermentation tank of fermentation-retting, a reinforced concrete tank of 3'×4'×3' was employed. The tank was heated directly by nichrome wires inserted in the holes at the bottom of the tank, and the temperature was controlled by a temperature regulator composed of a U glass tube filled with mercury and two capillary glass tubes with piano wires by which the temepratuer of the liquid in the tank was regulated within 1/500〜1/1000℃.The fermentation-retting of jute bast fibre was carried out in the fermentation tank, and found that very satisfying results were obtained in exalting the quality of the refined fibre and in shortening the period of fermentation.
