Pectic enzyme was prepared by extracting the mycelia of Asp. kawachii KITAHARA, and it was separated with Amberlite IRG-50 into two parts-the unadsorbed part (A), and the adsorbed part (B).Both (A) and (B) were found to contain polygalacturonases (PG) which split polymer at random, but their activities on high and low polyuronides were different from each other.(A) was fairly active on high and low polyuronides, but (B) did not readily act on low polyuronides, through its activity on high polyuronides was the same sa that of (A).If PG can be classified into the mold-PG type which easily hydrolyzes high and low polyuronides and the depolymerase typw which does not hydrolyze low polyuronides, the PG of tomato, regarded ar present as the typical depolymerase, and (A) should belong to the former, and the PF of Clostridium felsineum and (B) to the latter.
