Colonis white cottony, consisting of mass of branching and interlacing hyphase spreading over the surface of the nutrient medium. Conidiophores as branches of these aerial hypae, and branching dichotomously once or 2〜3 tines at the end of the stalk, with no Septa between the branchlets and the main axis. Each branchlet tubular, truncated at the tip, wherefrom cuttiong off conidia successively. The walls of the conidiophores smooth and thin. Conidia globose or ovoid, rarely ellipsoid, 6〜8μ(to 10μ) in size.Peritheria sphaerical 40〜90μ in diameter, yellowish brown, bounded by a single layer of pseudo-parenchymatic wall. A sic abundant, ovoid or globose, 10μ in size, each Containing 8 asco0spores; ascospores oval or lens-shaped, colorless, hyaline, smooth, consisting of two halves, each with a frill making a double exuatorial hand. The ascospores swell greatly before putting out germ tube, with the frills separated on one side of it.Optimum temperature for the growth 25〜30°C; tolerable growth even at 35°C. No gas formed from dextrose; invertase not produced.Obtained from soil in Kyoto by Mr. K.MINOURA.In the morphological aspect of perithecia it is certain that this fungus belongs to Aspergillaceae. The dichotomous branching at the apex of conidiophores, however, distinguishes it from the allied genes Allescheria, which is characterized by the sympodial branching of conidiophores. Hence a new generic name Dichotomomyces is proposed for this fungus.
