Colonies white to grayish white. Mycelium at first unicellular, then divided into the hyphal bodies filled with fat granules. Conidia produced at the apex of the hyphal bodies, and soon thrown onto opposite wall forming conidial mirror figure. Conidia globose, smooth, 30〜50 μ in size, with basal papilla ; in germination they give rise either to mycelium or to secondary conidia, borne on short conidiophores. Conidia not germinated transform into resting spores, which are characterized by thick walls, and by having a pluglike base and numerous soft, hairlike appendages. Resting spores germinate like that of conidia. Zygospores unknown.Optimum temperature for the growth 25〜30℃ ; no growth at 37℃.Obtained from soil in Tottori Prefecture by Dr. Y. OHTANI.This species is certainly Conidiobolus villosus MARTIN. It liquefies gelatin, casein very quickly, and with the latter the digested solution shows very conspicuous tryptophane reaction with bromine water. Rennet and invertase are strong, but amylase is very weak.
