In a previous pulication, the authors reported several results on the highly purified carboxymethylcellulase that was obtained from Aspergillus Saitoi cellulases. The present paper concerns a few properties of this enzyme.The optimum pH of the activity was approximately pH5,in the determination of reducing powe, m and the optimum temperature ranged from 50 to 60℃. The pH-stability of this carboxymethylcellulase was found to be stablized over the range of pH 2.8-7.5,and then the enzyme stabilized against the heat-stability effect, and the heating period of 120 minutes at 50℃ resulted in little loss of activity.The paper chromatogram of the highly purified carboxymethylcellulase of the assay suspension of the carboxymethyl cellulose resulted in the following ; During the early period of incubation, oligosaccharides were the only identifiable hydrolytic products. However, after a prolonged period (330 minutes), it was seen that cellobiose was identified as a product of hydrolysis. No glucose was detected. As a result of this experiment, it seems that the purified carboxymethylcellulase has the ability to produce cellobiose as an end product of carboxymethyl cellulose.The degrees of substitution (D.S.) of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose was important factor upon the enzyme action, but the degrees of polymerization (D.P.) had little influence on it.
