Antibiotic action of synthetic vitamin K upon bacteria, yeasts and molds was studied and following results were obtained.1) The order of antibiotic activity of vitamin K was as follows : Vitamin K_3> Vitamin K_5> Naphthoquinone >K_3 socium bisultite.2 Methyl-1,4 naphthohydroquinone diacetate scarcely inhibited the growth of micro-organisms.2) Gram-positive becteria, yeasts (Endomycetaceae) and molds which belong to Aspergillus and Penicillium were strongly inhibited, vitamin K_3 inhibiting the growth of most microbes perfectly by the use of 25 p.p.m., but upon Fungi imperfecti the inhibiting activitiy was weak. Rhizopus japonicus was inhibited very slightly, and some of Gram-negative bacteria, e.g. Proteus unlgaris and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were also inhibited very slightly or not at all respectively.
