STRUCTURE AND MAGNETIC PROPERTIES OF EPITAXIAL CrPt_3 AND Mn_<0.2>Cr_<0.8>Pt_3 ALLOY FILMS

Epitaxial CrPt_3 and Mn_0.2Cr_0.8Pt_3 films were grown by MBE system and the structure and the magnetic and magneto-optical properties of these films have been investigated.RHEED observation suggests that the CrPt_3(111) film epitaxially grows on MgO(111) and forms Cu_3Au type ordered structure.The easy axis of magnetization of CrPt_3 on MgO(11) lies in the film plane although the CrPt_3 on fused quartz substrate exhibits large perpendicular ansotropy(K_u=1.5×10~6erg/cm~3).The perpendicular magnetic anisotropy of Mn_0.2Cr_0.8Pt_3 is induced when the 30 nm Pt buffer layer is inserted at the interface between the alloy layer and the MgO(111).
