A new system of RCo_<12-x>Al_x (R=Y, Sm and Gd) compounds with TbCu_7-type structure has been successfully synthesised. Both thermamagnetic analysis and x-ray diffraction measurements show that all the compounds are almost of single phase and crystallize in the TbCu_7-type structure. The Curie temperature T_c is 921 K for YCo_<10.5>Al_<1.5>, 952 K for GdCo_<10.5>Al_<1.5> and 1046K for GdCo_<11>Al. X-ray diffraction patterns of magnetically aligned powder samples indicate that all compounds investigated exhibit uniaxial anisotropy at room temperature. The anisotropy fields and saturation magnetization of these compounds have been obtained by means of singular point detection (SPD) technique and mgnetic isotherm measurement, respectively.
