Structure and Magnetic Properties of La(Co_<1-x>Mn_x)_<13> Crystalline and Amorphous Alloys

The structural and magnetic properties of crystalline and amorphous alloys of La(Co_<1-x>Mn_x)_<13> have been investigated by X-ray diffraction and magnetization measurements. The structure of amorphous alloys consists of the icosahedral clusters. The saturation magnetic moment of the amorphous alloys takes a broad maximum around x=0.10, which is analogous with that of the crystalline alloys. The Curie temperature rapidly decreases with increasing Mn concentrations. The magnetic moment and the Curie temperature of the amorphous alloys are higher than those of the crystalline counterparts. Magnetic frustrastions between ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions bring about a spin-glass state above x=0.35.
