Two high-M_r mucin-like glycoproteins similar to each other, HMGP-A and C, have been discovered in human milk [Shimizu et al., Biochem. J., 233, 725 (1986)]. To characterize the properties of HMGP-A, specific antibody which is not reactive to HMGP-C was prepared by immunizing hens with HMGP-A. The HMGP-A-specific antibody (IgY) prepared by affinity-purification seems to be useful to distinguish HMGP-A-related antigens in milk and blood sera.
