The industrial utility of a respiratory-deficient mutant and its wild-type strain, Candida pseudotropicalis, was investigated. The results obtained for alcohol yield, productivity, and growth rate showed that the respiratory deficient mutant is superior to the wild-type strain. These results showed that, for yeasts not showing glucose effect in their respiratory metabolism, respiratory-deficient mutants could be used for alcohol production.
