Streptomyces lavendulae strain OP-2,produced five antibiotics belonging to the streptothricin group in both complex and sythetic media. The antibiotic OP-2-D, which was identical with racemomycin-D, and OP-2-C(racemomycin-B)were the major components. The effect of calcium sulfate(optimal concentration, 0.1%)on the production of antibiotics in synthetic medium was significant, though in complex medium not remarkable. The optimal temperature for antibiotics production was 29℃ in complex medium. The optimal concentration of glycerol in complex medium was 3.5%. From the physicochemical properties of OP-2-D hydrochloride, this antibiotic was found to be identical with racemomycin-D. Antimicrobial activity and toxicological features of OP-2-D hydrochloride were also examined.
