In this paper, we propose a novel wafer-based optical pickup module with a micro objective lens having NA 0.85 and 405nm wavelength for a small form factor optical disk drive. The size of the optical pickup is 3mm[W] x 2mm[D] x 3mm[H] approximately, which is suitable for realizing a small form factor optical drive based on Blu-ray Disc. The objective lens consists of three layers that are a hologram plate for reducing the aberration and two partial ball lenses mounted in transparent fused silica for making optical power to achieve NA 0.85.
