An experimental study has been carried out to investigate the effects of hydrophilic surface treatment on evaporation heat transfer on the outside wall of various modified copper tubes. Spiral, corrugated, and low-finned tubes were selected as test tubes. Hydrophilic treatment using plasma increased the wettability of distilled water on copper tubes. The experimental results indicate that the evaporation heat transfer rate of hydrophilic treatment tubes was enhanced by 10-24% for corrugated tubes, about 10% for spiral tubes, and 10-23% for low-finned tubes, at evaporation pressure of 31.8 Torr. In addition, experimental results on the effects of evaporator inlet temperature, of evaporator's internal flow rate, and of evaporation pressure are presented.
