The experimental study of the wall heat transfer and flow field in the wake behind a single wing-type vortex generator (WVG) was made to apply drag-reducing surfactant solution flows to far distance heating and cooling circuits. The investigations were conducted with three different concentrations of Cetyl-Trimethyl-Ammonium-Chloride (CTAC) - Sodium Salicylate (NaSal) surfactant solution, 0ppm, 30ppm and 200ppm, under the Reynolds number based on the main flow velocity and channel height, 4.4 × 10^3 〜 1.8 × 10^5. It was found that the surfactant solutions reduced the wall heat transfer coefficients drastically. The longitudinal vortex generated behind the WVG could locally recover the wall heat transfer up to almost same level of pure water case. The heat transfer recovery regions correspond to the locations of the longitudinal vortices visualized with Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). Jet impingement was also used to generate longitudinal vortices.
