Polycrystalline Ni_<2+x>Mn_<1-x>Ga (x=0.16-0.20) alloys prepared by arc-melting and Pulse Discharge Sintering (PDS) methods were studied by means of dilatometric and strain gage techniques in magnetic fields up to 5 T. The strain induced by a magnetic field in a temperature interval of martensitic transformation reaches 0.23% in arc-melted Ni_<2.20>Mn_<0.80>Ga, whereas in PDS samples it has smaller value. Compression of PDS samples results in a modification of the characteristic of the martensitic transformation. Namely, a two-way shape memory behavior is induced after a loading-unloading cycle performed in the martensitic state. Samples demonstrating two-way shape memory effect show a significant increase in the magnitude of strain induced by the magnetic field.
