Department of Pathology, Institute for Infectious Diseases, University of Tokyo. The Shwartzman phenomenon was successfully produced in the skin of the guinea pig in high percentage by a single intravenous eliciting injection (1,000γ per capita) 20-24 hours after two successive intradermal injections (each containing 50-200γ of toxin) of high potency meterial such as Pseudomonas seruginosa endotoxin. However when a large dose of the endotoxin (600-1,000γ) were used as the preparatory injection the Shwartzman phenomenon could successfully be produced by a intravenous eliciting injection (1,000γ per capita) 20-24 hours after only a single intadermal preparatory injection.
