A Study on Transmission Characteristics of Toothed Belt Drives : 2nd report, Transmission Error under a State of Applied Initial Tension, Theoretical Analysis

In this report, the transmission error of toothed belt drives under a state of applied initial tension in the static region is theoretically discussed. Both an elastic deformation of toothed belt and a polygonal action of toothed pulley are considered in this analysis. The transmission error is induced by a difference of the tension between both sides of belt owing to the elastic deformation and the polygonal action. From the result of several numerical calculations, the following conclusions have been obtained. The initial tension and the phase angle between both driving and driven pulleys exert a great effect on the transmission error. The transmission error of toothed belt drives decreases, if a suitable initial tension which is decided by the mechanical characteristics of belt is selected. And the transmission error increases when the phase angle comes close to a half of pulley pitch angle.
