The object of this paper is to study whether the cutting fluid reduces the tool wear in cutting the plastics which contains the abrasive reinforcement such as fibrous glass and aluminum oxide. For phenolic resin containing alumium oxide, the cutting fluid has no influence on the tool wear. However, for fibrous glass reinforced plastics, the viscosity of the cutting fluid has great influence on the tool wear. A high viscous cutting fluid causes severe tool wear, and though a low viscous cutting fluid reduces the tool wear for the plastics whose fibrous glass is twined to thread, it has no effect on the plastics whose fibrous glass is untwined.
