The object of this paper is to give a rheological explanation for the peculiar behavior of the tool wear which appears in cutting fibrous glass reinforced plastics. As a result of this theoretical analysis, it became clear that the deformation speed of the work, the contact area between the work and the tool, the flexural rigidity of the fibrous glass and visco-elasticity of plastics have influence on the tool wear. Using this result, the effects of the conditions such as cutting speed and chip thickness on the tool wear were considered.
